Hi guys, some of you had read my former post about finding plant bits drifting along at Sauble Beach (Lake Huron Ontario, Canada)

I'm pretty sure I identified them, can't believe it !

Jungle Val ( Vallisneria Americana ) (Eel-grass)
This plant is awesome and my straight val will be pulled from the tank since it's too large.. The jungle Val is just right for the tank..

Anacharis (Elodia Canadensis) or Elgeria Densa.

Eurasian Watermilfoil (Myriophyllum Spicatum)
A nice plant similar in a way to hornwort.

This plant died: White-Stemmed Pondweed (Potamogeton Praelongus) I'll get more and try again. Think my 'bleach rinse' killed it.

Another plant still unidentified. I started looking up what aquatic plants are native to Ontario (and some invasive pest types that were introduced)

Found some grass-like stuff today in a creek in Aurora.
Pulled some out but couldn't get the roots..

There's another plant I'm sure I'll find somewhere around here which is Curlyleaf Pondweed Potamogeton crispus.

It's really fun getting your own stuff for the tank from nature.. Beats getting overcharged at the LFS ! I can't believe I found 3 Jungle Vals and 1 of them already grew a couple inches in my low light tank.

That's pretty cool that they're growing in your tank. I might see what I can find at my cottage this summer, never know what's in there. Only problem is I'll be pulling plants from a creek, might not make it in the relatively still water in my tank. Only one way to find out though.

Go for it Rosco !

Make sure to rinse the plants REALLY well.
And there's a few recent posts regarding how to treat these to kill the snail eggs and bugs etc.

Here's what I found with the plants. Very small water bugs, unk bug larvae, unk worms, snail eggs..

Huh, doesn't sound much worse than what I've seen on plants in some pet shops.

I don't think there's any way I'm going to go to my cottage and not bringing something back.

I know what you mean, I can't go anywhere now without finding a lake, or stream to explore
