Shekoi's 72 gallon planted tank log | |
SheKoi Fish Addict Posts: 667 Kudos: 553 Votes: 4 Registered: 11-Feb-2004 | cheers LF. it's the FP all nice and new. anyway thats catch up - yeaturday i spent all morning draining the tank down as every time i touched the substrate the tank turned into chocolate milkshake - once i washed the substrate through seems to be slightly better - just lokked cloudy - i added the carbon to the filter now it's nice and clear. i added the plants why i thoght would look good- hard to see as it went cloudy again - waited till this morning to take the photos - i'll post them in a minute. the light on tank isn't very good -its just a 25W T8 off my 40g the luminaire i ordered hasn't come yet. www.blooming-brilliant.co.uk |

This is not your tank, right? This is a sample of how you would your tank like to look when it is all said and done. Please explain, Ingo |

SheKoi Fish Addict Posts: 667 Kudos: 553 Votes: 4 Registered: 11-Feb-2004 | the fire place was an issue but with only two places in whole house bigger enough to take a 60g with my 40g in the other it had to go there. good thing is the tank is going in a room i hardly use, and i've never used the fire in the 7 months i've lived in the house. tetratec external filter nw up and running on 40g. it's so quiet towards the fluval 304 i did have on. the 304 has been really well cleaned, used bleach and hot water, so this can be used to start again when i get round to turning the 40g into an african cichlid tank in the new year. cheers ps i've never had a spray bar on a tank before, should it be above water below, or so that the outlets are right on the surface? also does it go at the side of tank or back pointing forward? cheers shekoi Last edited by shekoi at 20-Dec-2005 07:34 www.blooming-brilliant.co.uk |

LITTLE_FISH ***** Little Fish ***** Master of Something Posts: 7303 Kudos: 1997 Votes: 670 Registered: 20-May-2005 | shekoi, It looks like a nice spot for the tank. I noticed the fireplace on the left, is that one in use? If so, could it be that the heat would reach the tank's left side. That might be a problem. Ingo EDIT: You know what I would suggest: place a rubber mat under the stand. I use the plastic shields they make for rolling chairs at the work place (forgot what they are called. I have mine sticking our in the front for maybe 6 inches so when I mess with the tank and water drips off my arms it falls on the matt and can be wiped off easily. SheKoi Fish Addict Posts: 667 Kudos: 553 Votes: 4 Registered: 11-Feb-2004 | tanks coming tonight - filter has just this minute been delivered i'm moving furniture around at the moment to get room to bring the tank in. fingers crossed it goes through the door. alcove where the tank will be going, its 43 inches wide so the tank should fit nicely. just going to have play with filter now and connect it to forty gallon to start its cycle. cheers shekoi www.blooming-brilliant.co.uk |

LITTLE_FISH ***** Little Fish ***** Master of Something Posts: 7303 Kudos: 1997 Votes: 670 Registered: 20-May-2005 | Well, Matty wasn't the first one either. Dr. Bonke was the first one I saw, but I am sure there were others as well And I can't take all the credit for popularizing "the Log", tetratech and I started at the same time we've got a cool thing going over there, join the Gang. Yeah, maybe you want to start off by picking your alias from one of the people [link=HERE]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Planted%20Aquaria/64425_32.html?200512160956" style="COLOR: #ff6633[/link] (scroll down a little and you will know ). SheKoi Fish Addict Posts: 667 Kudos: 553 Votes: 4 Registered: 11-Feb-2004 | i've had it custom built due to the fact i have an old victorian house so the only space i have for tanks is the sides of the chimneys. with the biggest alcove being 43inches i couldn't really get a tank bigger then 40g from a LFS cause they are all X gallon longs, i needed wide and tall. i found the guy on ebay to build it for me, it comes untreated so that will be my first jb next week, i'll probably do the same as on the photo, just a clear protective vanish of some sort. cheers shekoi www.blooming-brilliant.co.uk |

Is it custom-made or store-bought? Please give us more pictures. Preferably some close-ups and such. That would be great! Keep up the GREAT work! Christina |

NowherMan6 Fish Master Posts: 1880 Kudos: 922 Votes: 69 Registered: 21-Jun-2004 | Hey, come over to planted tank forum! Logs in the planted forum have their beginnings with Mattyboombattys log, but LF was the one who really popularized the whole thing. He's the Elvis to matty's Chuck Berry Anyway, the point is, we've got a cool thing going over there, join the Gang. Also, if you're going for a heavily planted low light tank, look around for pics of Cup_of_Lifenoodels tank. I'm pretty sure he has a fairly large tank filled with java fern, looks amazing. |
