Does anyone know of some South American plants that could do well in a low light tank with a sand substrate? I'm setting up a 55 gallon and am not gonna run C02 but may dose with ferts. I was looking at Dwarf Hairgrass but thought it wouldn't do well under low light. Any help would be appreciated.

you can put anubius into sand, as long as the rhizome stays out of the sand completely - bury the roots only and it will be fine. tolerates low light.

Anubias is good for low light, however, it is an African plant, not south american.
Amazon swords(Echinodorous blheri/ E. amazonicus) will do pretty good under low light. Anacharis(elodia), hornwort. There are also a few others, i have tried the above with great success.
