	Strangest thing....
So_Very_Sneaky Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3238 Kudos: 2272 Votes: 201 Registered: 10-Mar-2004	Hi there, I went out today and purchased some new plants for my 90g tank. I got a Jungle Vall bunch, a "Parrots feather" for my 25g guppy tank, and a Java Fern. The strangest thing is, I thought Java Fern stayed pretty small, kind of compact. My other one is very small, maybe 4 inches tall or so. This one I purchased today is a monster. It is planted in the bottom, has a huge rhizome, and must be a solid 18 inches tall from stem base to leaf tip. Do they really get this big? Or do I have a different plant altogether on my hands? It sure does look like a Java Fern to me!!! It was a great buy too, only 3.99 canadian for each plant, the java fern being the best of the bunch!! bensaf Fish Master Posts: 1978 Kudos: 1315 Registered: 08-Apr-2004	Java Ferns can indeed get huge. It just takes a long time for them to get there. I've seen them range in size from 2ins tall to about 18ins tall(I live in Java so I see alot of them ) in a thick bunch. I've seen one bunch for sale that would have filled half my 65 easily. So It's a pretty safe that you have a fine healthy Java Fern. Some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue. Remember that age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability.

After awhile new leaves started coming up and were normal size( 4in. tall in my tank). Then i did some research and it said they get taller and greener in harder water. Is this true?
