The tank's been set up for about a month now. I don't really do anything with it anymore--just dose, trim the moss, and 50 prec. WCs every week.

Stocking is as follows: cardinals, adolfois, aspidoras, orange lazer, and a young albino ancistrus.

For the record, I just trimmed the moss yesternight, hence the scruffy look.

COL,

The tank looks nice. That is glosso on the ground, right? How is it doing? Do you mind sharing the tank parameters, like light and if you add any ferts?

I like the Anubias group, I think it would deserve a more centered position. What is the purpose of the moss? Do you use it for spawning? If it is for visuals only then I would say that it is too massive (compared to the Anubias group), even after you just trimmed it. Is it affixed to wood or rock?

Just some thoughts,

Ingo

You got it . The moss is indeed to fixate the eggs of the Adolfois which have yet to give me a viable spawn and is attached to wood. Now that I think about it, though, it does look quite distracting. I'll fiddle around with the scaping a bit tomorrow. The glosso is doing well, though without CO2, it's kind of a drag.

Currently, the tank runs 40W 6000K light. Ferts are Iron/K every 2-3 days, and assorted micros on the same regime. Plants include lliaps (only one or two sprigs---grew in with the moss, go figure), downoi, HC, glosso, christmas moss, anubias nana and petite nana. As stated above, no CO2 and around 13 hours of light a day.

Very nice plant assortment

Nice to hear that even high light plants seem to grow (somewhat descent) in a 10G without CO2 and what is supposedly a medium light on that tank size. I would like to see how well they all develop.

About the ferts, you did not mention the other two macros, N and P. Are you adding them as well or are the fish taking care of some basics for it?

Glass needs wiping....

Looks to be a tidy scape, and will look very nice once things grow in well. .

Indeed. I'm not too great with keeping the water stains off the front pane .

I stopped dosing PO4 and NO3 about hald a month ago, just to see how things would turn out. As things were, it seemed that the fish were taking care of these two chemicals in the waste dept., so I figured my PMDDs weren't really being put to good use and so I stopped with them. The plants have been growing at about the same pace without them, so I'm satisfied.

COL,

Having a spawing moss means to me that your main intention for this tank is breeding fish. In that case, I would try to create an atmosphere most likely to convice the fish to spawn rather than a focussing on a human-eye pleasing tank.

Now, you are much better than me in identifying what would be a good spawn setup, so I will refrain to advise you (except if you want to breed Rasbora Espei) .

This does not mean that one cannot contain elements of the other (spawn vs. beauty), but the goals may be different.

Hope this helps,

Ingo

I agree completely, and have in fact set up the tank specifically to breed the corydoras in question along with a bit of eye pleasing foliage to go along with it. It started off with just the moss, anubias, and a bit of glosso on the side. However, the 'stimga eventually spread across the entire foreground. The corys do, in fact, breed regularly, with or without the glosso mat. However, the eggs I collect from the moss are always infertile, so I've decided to stop trying until I can reclaim my DO system (it was taken out due to expense issues, and I'm working towards a college fund currently).
