I have a 5 gallon aquarium currently housing guppy and platy fry. The light is an 8 watt. Would java moss grow? If so, would I need anything special (CO2 or fertilizers)?
Thanks in advance!

I swear that java moss would grow in a box. I've had it grow in a small glass bowl full of water that I used to dump java clippings into when I was cleaning a tank. A month later I remembered it... and found it had grown significantly.

Conditions during that time were room temp (this was during winter, so 70, ranging to the low sixties at night), no light besides ambient light, and old water. Silly stuff... I had so much that with another trim of the orginal tank, I created an entire background of java moss for a 12 gallon tank (tied to plastic canvas).

I left some java moss is a small betta bag (no fish present) on my boyfriend's desk for over a month. Kept meaning to give it to someone, but never remembered when they were around. The moss was quite fine.
I think it would do well in your tank.
