At the moment I've got hygro and wisteria in a 4ft tank, but they're very tall and have been blown about by the filter, and have intertwined to make a great big plant rope knot

If I trim them much lower down will they grow bushier and stronger? Is it possible to trim them too far down(as long as they still have leaves)?

Thanks in advance

With the hygro I'd say cut it in half then plant the top half into the gravel, you might decide to either keep the bottom half planted (it will prob grow a new top) or discard the bottom half.. I'm not familiar with wisteria.
Hygro does get more bushy when trimmed.

Cut the Hygro just above a leaf node and plant the top, the bottom half should grow two new branches where you made the cut and become bushier.

With the Wisteria you can too the same but personally I always felt the new growth was weaker and smaller. I prefer to uproot it cut a few inches of the bottom and stick the top back in, it seems to stay healthier that way.
