I dont know if it works well, I am experimenting with it right now myself. Yes, you take the syringe and squirt the plants.

You dont directly put it in the tank, you spot shoot them. Like I use the oral medicine syringe and aim the H2O2 at algae on the plants. It has to be done every 24 hours and then wait for 15-20 minutes followed by the water change

Your fish shouldn't be effected by it since I have scale-less fish in my tank.

So do you put the Hydrogen Peroxide directly into the tank?

So if I have a 15 gallon tank with plants I want to treat, how much would I put in? I have 3 emerald green coriesin there with some apos and maybe anachris if that is what I found.

BTW, i use a syringe and squeeze H2O2 on spots where I see BBA. I haven't used more then 5ml on my 75 gallon tank. Some people do a water change after 15-20 minutes but I haven't done any and every plant and fish seems normal to me

First of all use the 3% H2O2 formula (can get it at walmart or drug store)

I dont have a formula but this is what I saw posted on other forum

Hearty plant only, no fish - 1oz per 5g
Not as hearty and/or with fish - 1oz per 12g
Sensitive plants & fish - 1oz per 20g. Otos, snails & shrimp, this might even be too much for riccia.

I am using H2O2 to kill of beard algae and I just started today. I'll let you know how it goes.

Hydrogen peroxide...people have been experimenting with this method for a little while now, with mixed results...usually to spot-treat algae, the times I've seen posts about it on forums. From what I gather, it either works or totally kills off the plant with a quickness, hehe. Do you have a mixture ratio that works, FMZ? I'm curious too.

Bleach (Chlorine) Dip

This is a more effective and sure-fire way to kill algae. It is also very easy to kill the plant in the process. Regular household bleach (i.e. Clorox) is diluted to a 5% (19 parts water to 1 part bleach) solution in a bucket. It's good to have a second bucket filled with rinse water containing 3X the normal dechlor. Dip large leaf plants for 3 minutes, immediately move to the dechlor rinse water, then rinse under running tap water for a few seconds, if you still smell chlorine, repeat the rinse process again. For small delicate leaf plants and mosses dip for only 2 minutes in the bleach. To be safe, add dechlor to the tank after adding the plants back. Also, if your dipping a lot of plants you may need to add more dechlor to your rinse water.

But like I said, the plants are free, so get more than you need for the tank so if you kill a few no big deal. Sure-fired way to kill all the nasties. Some people do nothing but rinse them in tapwater, but I am not personally comfortable with that for my tanks.

That's true. I think I may use the bleach one instead.

What is it?

1 Part bleach, 19 parts water? So would that mean I can use....1/4 cup water x 19, 1/4 cup bleach x 1? And soak it for 2 minutes, leaves only...not the roots or rhizomes? Correct me if I am wrong...

Thanks

I'd use the bleach if it were me.. it's not like you can't go grab some more if you accidentally keep it in the bleach water too long or something. . . .

Thanks guys, I am sure they wont mind. The plant covers almost all of the shore, I don't think they wanted it there because it probably snags fishing lines. So, I think I might try the dip from Jungle Labs. Anyone thing that would work good? Or should I use the bleach one...I just think the bleach one is risky.

"water weed" fits many plants, but it is the common name for Egeria densa in particular. http://www.petfish.net/weed.htm . When I think of water weed I think of tropical sunset hygro, polysperma, anacharis, etc...basically anything that grows stupidly fast and is invasive like that.

If you use it from a local lake, I'm sure the local wildlife/nature depts. would not mind as it is a nuisance plant in many cases. I would still check with them first though. I would definitely use some kind of method to kill bacteria and other nasties before putting in tank ( http://www.fishprofiles.com/interactive/forums/thread.asp?id=42667)

Are you talking about water hyacinth?

Haven't kept it myself, but I have a feeling it would outgrow your tank pretty quickly.

Here's a link with some info about it...

Anyone? I saw some of this in a local lake, and I was wondering if it would be good for a 15g tall aquarium.
