I have 8 tanks, all planted, variety of fish. Only one tank has lighting that puts it into the medium range.

These are plants I've had good luck with:

-hornwort (floating)
-anacharis (floating or planted; I have one floating piece that's almost 8 feet long now!)
-Amazon sword
-anubias
-crypts
-Java fern
-Java moss
-moss balls
-dwarf sag
-water sprite

I only buy plants online from [link=Aquatic Plant Depot]http://www.aquaticplantdepot.com/" style="COLOR: #FFFFCC[/link]. I've ordered from them many times, they have good customer service, the plants always arrive in great shape, their prices are better than any lfs in my area, they have no minimum order requirement, and they ship Priority Mail at a flat rate of $10.00

Wow thanks great help

One thing, If ordering from out of the United States you will have to get an import permit from your government agriculture department and fax it to us in English (if not it will have to be translated into English and notarized) and then we can proceed with shipping.

Oh my anyone know of any that does not include this,
or do you not need this permit for these simple plants??????

Very sorry, but I've never heard of this (probably because I'm a freakin' isolated american). You may want to ask the site owner himself.

I have a few comments on the popular plant lists, too.

Java fern is easy only if you tie it to a rock or wood (with rubber band or nylon thread). Many people make the mistake of sticking them in the gravel, and watching them die shortly.

Java moss, for some people, is difficult to grow. Mine never stuck to anything.

Anubias are hard to find at your LFS, as are crypts, and both are expensive.

HOWEVER, the -easiest- plant, I'd say, is water wisteria. I had three in a 10g guppy tank, and it's made an incredible canopy over the tank, and is actually growing out of the water.

Also, just install some plant-grow bulbs. It's easy, and you can keep a wide range of plants then. If you do that, I thinks ludwigia and bacopa are easiest to grow in high light.

Anubias and crypts are the best (though expensive) for low-light tanks, and so's wisteria (mine has no plant anything added). Many kinds of swords will thrive, too, but some of them get humongous (like amazon swords)and can even break the glass.

Vallisneria is another thing I've had luck with. My african cichlids don't even bother it. I have swords, java fern and vallisneria with my africans, and all are thriving.

If you're feeling adventurous and advanced sometime, try sagittaria.

To be perfectly honest...java moss is the only thing that I can grow relatively easily in my tank.

I HAD ]:| an oscar in my tank with a few plants. When he got to about 6 inches, he systematicaly uprooted all the plants in the tank. I know it was not a space issue, because he was the king of a 90 gal.

Side thought: all my plants were pretty tall, not bottom clustering like java moss or some types of anubias...

Good luck anyway!

Any one of the lowlight plants will do fine. Provided you give them at least 8-10 hrs a day of light.

Low light plants include but not limited to the following plants.

Java- fern and moss.
Hornwort
crypts of all types.

There are other plants, but these are the only one's I've kept and know about.

BTW, you will find that any live plant you keep in the Oscar setup will quickly be turned into a snack. Oscars are known for tearing up live plants.

To add to the list of Shan's, Anubias and Dwarf Lilies are also nice choices for low light. A word of advice on the Lilies though, keep trimming the shoots that they send to the surface, or your will block out even more of the light. Another neat thing you can do is take Anubias, Java Fern, and Java Moss, and attach them to driftwood. I would agree with him about the live plants in with the Oscars! I wouldn't waste my time or money trying to plant that tank... personal opinion there!

I was thinking just java moss for the oscars on one rock, its not even a big rock ......but if they will eat it I won't put it in.

Thanks for the heads up on what easy.

Is there any good sites that are plant id sites, my petstore isnt very neat, and there plants are not labeled, they will just hand em out.

If so it would be a huge help make sure I know what i'm getting and doing first I don't trust my LFS.
