Ehiem's are good, but I like the Via Aqua, the largest one would be very good for a 55. It'sd every bit as good as the Ehiem and I have them right next to my bed and cannot hear them.

Should be about 80-90$ or so.
You add CO2? With that much light, you better. Even 1/2 that amount of light.

Not sure where you are, but I can find gas CO2 tanks locally for 45-65 $ ea for 10-20lb sizes at a fire extingusher place of a beer brewing micro brew supply place sometimes have them, or ice vendors.
You can get a reg with a needle valve for 60-80$ on line.

You can Tee off the regulator by adding a simple brass Tee and another needel valve(11-25$ea) to supply multiple CO2 enriched tanks.

Gravel, if you do not have 2-3mm, 30 grit sand or plant specific gravel etc, consider it. Soil Master from Lesco.com retails for about 16$ for 50lb bag.
That's about all you need for this tank.

Save the filter/gravel "dirt" and add some of that to the bottom layer if you redo the tank.
