We'd need to know specifics on your bulbs...mainly wattage .

If it's the standard bulb that comes with the tank you're likely underlit for most aquatic plants.

Additionally you're on the low side for substrate depth and will want to look to increasing that for the plants...they do need something to dig into after all!

Staple low light plants include java moss, java fern, hornwort and anubias species...I'm sure I'm missing some. Have a look at [link=tropica]http://www.tropica.com" style="COLOR: #EB4288[/link] for some info.

Peter,

As Babelfish says, we need more information.

One thing at least seems pretty certain, the amazon will grow way too big for a 10G.

I think you missed crypts. Most of those will do alright in low light.
If you have a 10g hood with the 2 screw in bulbs then it's really easy to switch it to much higher wattage. If you have a strip with 1 long tube bulb then you can't just increase the wattage of the bulb that's in it and you may have too little light.

If by amazon you mean an amazon sword it will outgrow a 10g in no time. They will even outgrow a 55g if you don't do some work to keep their size down. I stuck one of the baby plants into my 5g about 1month ago. It had 4-5leaves then and now it's filled the whole tank and I'm moving it to my 90g. There are some smaller sword plants you could try but I don't know the names specifically. Try [link=http://www.tropica.com/default.asp]http://www.tropica.com/default.asp" style="COLOR: #C000C0[/link] for plant info.

How bright a bulb is, has some links to the wattage of the bulb. Other facters to how bright the bulb is the Kelvin rating(K) which for planted aquariums, should be around 5,500k-6,700k for most plants. I use to buy these bulbs from Walmart that did not have a K rating and were very yellow. I then switched over to Zoo med bulbs (Tropic Sun) and they exhibit a very bright white light.

You have two ten watt bulbs. wpg guidelines break on small tanks and this is closer to low light than medium light.

"Staple low light plants include java moss, java fern, hornwort and anubias species...I'm sure I'm missing some."

This is good advice as none of those plants care about substrate. Add some depth and root tabs and you could grow crypts. Dwarf lilies, nymphaea stellata, do well in that light, and can be trimmed to stay low if wanted.

Thats 2 watts over a to gallon. That is a fairly good medium light in my opinion. I dont know if they are good for growing plants though. If you find out that they are not, go to your aquarium store and buy better ones. I n addition to the plants listed before, you could try Bacopa spp. and wisteria(hygrophylla difformis). these grow for me in my 29 gallon which has 1.25 watts per gallon(soon to be doubled though).

These are screw in bulbs or just long tubes? If they are compact flourescent screw in bulbs I would say you could grow quite a few medium light plants. Compact bulbs put out more lumens than regular flourescent tubes. You can also buy higher wattage screw in bulbs and replace your current ones very easily if you want higher light.
