I remember talking to a shellie entusiast on the cichilid forum who keeps a breeding pair of N.Brevis in a 3 gal! But he did say that he keeps most of his others in 10 gals ![]() |

I've had little success with plants in sand, but some people have been able to grow just about everything in it. What is your WPG? I'd just watch for plants that will do well under the lighting conditions you have. The anubias and java fern do well under any lighting condition, but you may have more options if you have more light. Critical Fertilator: The Micromanager of Macronutrients |

Some crypts will do okay in sand but again I wouldnt do it with fish that like to dig. I'd also go with a 10 over a 5 gallon. ^_^[hr width='40%'] The life, the love, You die to heal. I've found that grass-like plants are the best choices for planting directly in sand. For a five, I expect you're looking at brevis? They maintain very small territories and aren't particularly accomplished diggers; you're likely to have very good luck keeping them with plants. They'll be sure to dig up a few bits here and there but will mostly leave them alone, so it's a good mix. And, brevis kick their fry out of the shell very young, so the plants will help provide hiding spaces for them. -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com! |
