Hello,

In another thread there were comments that this CO2 system is bad. Yes, it's a fancy DIY system. But, the infuser seems useful. Can somebody please fill me in on why it's bad and what in its price range would be better?

Thanks

Eric

Hey I believe that you might have seen my comment regarding
this system, where I recommended he do DIY instead. I didn't
mean to say the system was bad, just that it work of the exact
same principles as DIY CO2 and they can out it in a pretty
contained and charge more for it. That is my only problem
with the system, If you are incapable of making a DIY rig,
then there is no problem in buying one of the premade systems,
other than it will be a few extra dollars.

HTH,
Megil.

Eric – Do you doubt my statement in your other thread?

I agree with Megil that this CO2 system is nothing better than a DIY in a nice package. Try to read some more comments about it on the web and you will find out that it is not all that good (meaning it is bad).

Maybe I should elaborate my harsh words .

- First off, it is suited for tanks up to 40G, and you have a 46G. My experience is that if a product is advertised as “for up to…” something then it can barely manage the upper boundary. This is true for heaters, filters, and all the other neat things we throw in our tanks. That’s why you will find that FP people usually recommend items with safety zones.

Now, about 6 months ago I was looking into CO2 systems myself. During that research time I came across your product as well. Digging in, I found comments about it somewhat like this:

- Glorified DIY (nothing new, Megil and I told you that already)
- Inconsistent CO2 production at startup of product and in particular when filling begins to be depleted. This is bad as it will create an unstable environment in your tank. I also believe to remember that the optimum CO2 production time is less than one week (out of the 4 weeks that one dosage is supposed to last) but I can’t vouch for this memory (I just might have been confused )
- High maintenance costs as you would need a refill at least once a month (and they are what, like $8)

All of this made me conclude that if I ever wanted an inexpensive, and I avoid the word cheap on purpose, CO2 solution then it would be DIY.

Hope this explains where I was coming from,

i dont think it is bad , the canister is good and also the powerhead, if you are looking for a long term diy solution a little outlay will give you a good delivery method for minimal ongoing costs
also the same with the nutrafin co2 system

for me an outlay of a certain cost is worth having a system that works and then being able to diy the rest of the process
