I'm so excited

I've been eyeballing the 7 gallon bowfront but really wanted to go smaller, like around 5 gallons because it is going on a dresser that I don't have much confidence in

I really, really wanted the 8 gallon nano by JBJ, but once again, it is just that much heavier.

Now I see they have come out with a 6 gallon and it even has nighttime LED built right in.

I'm getting that bugger for my new planted betta tank. I'll have to wait a few weeks or maybe until spring, but that's the animal. What a beauty.

Eco-Complete + Plants.....

Oooo - I'm so excited thinking about it. What plants should i put in. I like the carpet effect of Microsword.

It will be home to my betta and hopefully a small school of habrosus cories.

Cool little tank!

As for plants, i would suggest to go with small ones, so it won't look out of proportion.

Here are a few:
Echinodorus Quadricostatus or Sagittaria Pusilla for that carpet effect you want
Ludwigia Repens (for color and contrast)
Hygrophila Corymbosa (as a background plant)
Bacopa Caroliniana (midground)
Hygrophila Polysperma (for color and texture, midground)
Lysimachia Mummularia( small leave midground)

of course the always famous
Anubias bateri var. nana petit
Java moss
Java Fern and java windelov
some smaller crypts

I will look those up on tropica to see what they are. I don't always recognize the scientific names, but may as well get use to it .

I hope I find success with the Hagen co2 device on my 20 long. I just set it up today. I was really glad to see it had settings for 5, 10 and 20 gallons (as I understood it) because I may get one for the 6 gallon. I think I'll need co2 with 18w of light in a 6 gallon.

It's just a different placement for the tube opening with regards to placement in the bubble counter. For a 20 gallon you place it at the bottom and for a smaller tank in the middle. It gives less time for the bubbles to dissolve.

Very nice - I've bookmarked it!

I meant to ask - how deep does the substrate need to be for coffeefolia. It was one of the original plants I had intended to make a centerpiece, but just never got around to it. My tank is shallow with only the deepest part being about 1.5 inches in the tiger val corner. The rest is about 3/4 inch.

A.barteri coff. grows a bit large for such a small aquarium, as does the tiger val. I'd do a glosso/dwarf sag/baby tear carpet, with a nana petite flower as the centerpiece. For color, rotala magenta towards the backdrop would be nice. To fill in the rest of the space, I'd go with some brep. ludwigia, and stargrass.

I should have specified, the coffeefolia and val were for my 20 long . The val just kind of drapes across the top.

This little tiny 6 gallon tank has 18w of light. I suppose co2 would be a must, unless one wants algae. Dosing it in such a tiny tank may be difficult, although the Hagen device I got has a position for 5, 10 and 20 gallons. You just put the releasing end higher up the ladder for less diffusion.

Or, a good application for Flourish Excel.

I think that for that small tankk a 2in substrate will be more than enough, you don't have to use Co2, wait till your plants demand it, if you want to take more advantage out of your 3WPG, then go for high light plants, most of them are awesome in color and really fast growers, i have smaller tanks with the double of light and i haven't had algae problems so far. and i only have really high light demanding plants and they are all doing great. It's quite difficult to dose sucha small tank with Co2 IME.

I just figured with 3w/gal I'd end up with an algae bloom for sure. But, there always is excel to keep the algae at bay. It is actually a good algae deterrent just in itself
