Echinodorus angustifolia or dwarf chain sword grows well in 2 WPG in my tank. VERY carpet/grass-like. See a picture of it [link=here.]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Planted%20Aquaria/52902_2.html?200502130832" style="COLOR: #00FFFF[/link]

Is this what you're looking for?

www.eheim.com -> Info Database -> Habitat Information -> Taganyika-Rocky Bed

That would be val. Relatively easy to grow. (your mileage may vary) Grassy looking. Inexpensive. Does not need a lot of light.

If I start taking some back to the lfs, I wouldn't mind saving you some and seeing how much shipping is. As long as it's not outrageous it would be cool. I haven't quite filled in the front yet so it may be a couple more weeks before I have to start taking some out. We'll see if I can keep it in good shape until then.

Fast, and you can see for yourself in that same link. The 5 or 6 pots that I bought (day 5 pic) Turned into a full out carpet in just a few weeks (day41 pic). I'd call that fast. There are more runners sprouting from those things than I care to count. I'm about ready to start taking some from my tank back to the lfs.

Depends on the size and quality of the plant, if it's potted, that sort of thing. I got mine in pretty good shape in pots for 3 bucks a pot. My lfs is pretty reasonable I think.

Good luck!

You can also try Sagittaria subulata, which might get tall enough to get enough light.

I don't remember the requirements for acorus plants, but I do remember them being pretty hardy when I had them.

My hairgrass wouldn't grow untill I got over 3wpg of light. I have grown water onion (Crinum thaianum)in low light and I've heard dwarf onion (Zephyranthes candida) grows in low light but I haven't been able to find any yet.

I think he was talking about Eleocharis acicularis, whose common name is Hair Grass and is suitable to grow in aquariums.

There is always the option of hair grass, which is not so demanding and a really fast grower.

i have a 150 gallon planted tank. with the cost of lighting such a tank, i gave up on the idea of lush green forrest. i since just use the strong light plants for my 20 longs and 10 gals. which is easier to supply the light needed.

my 150 is a low light setup, its mostly crypts, floating sags, valls, dwarf onion, hornworth, riccia , pennyworth, amazon frogbit, water sprites, apons,java moss, java fern and alot of diffrent anubia species

well in a large tank sand may not be the optimal choice but it can work, i dont like it because of aerobic pockets and compaction over time and collection of mulm. the problem with grass like plants, are that most need pretty strong lighting and a 100 gallon may be too deep, unless you want to buy MH lighting which is pretty pricy. a plant that dosent look like a grass type but can have a smilliar effect in larger tanks would be crypts, which are less dependent on light.
