Can I safely trim these two and replant the cuttings? By safely I mean I don't want lose them, they're both doing well and have such nice color. The problem is they're in a tank with a 12" height and already bending over at the water line.

Thanks

Hi Theresa,

Both can take the trimming without problem.

The Ludwigia will take the trimming very well and can get quite bushy. However you'll find with Ludwigia if you let it grow across the surface for a bit growth really goes into overdrive and it will produce a lot of sideshoots at the nodes. After it's done this for a bit you can cut it. This way you can get a really bushy plant quite quickly. Just be warned that for some reason a fair few Ludwigia cuttings just don't take and can die off for no reason, but this is usually a minority.

While the Bacopa can be propagated by trimming I prefer not to do that with the plant. Bacopa looks best when it's straight and erect imo and the bottom cutting doesn't look good. I usually just cut the top 2/3 or so replant that and chuck the bottom. This also keeps it more full looking (avoids that bare bottom look you've got going there ). In good light it will produce sideshoots I prefer to let these grow for a bit and then trim for propogation.
