Fert price and availability varies depending on the area...however have a look @ [link=this poll]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Planted%20Aquaria/59226.html?200505092220" style="COLOR: #EB4288[/link] for varioius opinions on ferts.
I'm of the opinion that a general fert often does more harm then good. At least it does in my tanks.

Hi Tankie,
If you can get it, look for fertilizer called "Aquarium Plant Food" or "Pond Plant Food" by a Canadian Company called "The Aquarium Stuff Company". They are out of British Columbia. I have tried all the other ferts available in canada, except tropica master grow (simply because it is far too expensive), and Aquarium Stuff's fertilizer is the best.
I use the pond fert because it is highly concentrated, lasts a very long time, has all the beneficial trace elements, iron, potassium, magnesium etc, and yet has no phosphates or nitrates to encourage algae growth.
I used flourish previously, but found it caused algae problems, such as staghorn algae, and cyano bacter.

Oh, and It is cheap. I paid 11.99 here in Nanaimo BC for a 500ml bottle and I have used only about 1/8 of it in a year, as 1 capful does 100g.

Macro nutrients and traces are far cheaper from www.gregwatson.com.

CMS+ Boron will last a lifetime for a few $.
KNO3/KH2PO4 are dirt cheap.

You can also get the GH stuff from him, CaCl2 and MgSO4(these can be found locally most often along with KNO3).
