Has anyone tried this? http://www.belowwater.com/products/carbo-plus/

It's also listed on bigals for what seems to be fairly cheap http://bigalsonline.com/catalog/product.xml?product_id=19231;category_id=2873;pcid1=3349;pcid2=

I read a few reviews and opinions on various sites but noone seems to really be decided on whether it works. It does seem to be agreed that it doesn't work in soft water(definitely no problem here I'd gladly lower my kh). Mainly I'm concerned about water changes. Even if it works I'd be adding ph 8, kh 18 water to the kh 3 everyone says the carbon plus lowers your water to. That seems a bit much for the fish. It is expensive but I don't really have time now to mess with DIY co2 and I don't really want pressurized tanks around and to fill them. Besides my mom keeps asking me what I want for christmas so I thought about trying it out unless someone has some horror story or proof it doesn't work. DIY isn't exactly safe either.. I've heard some real horror stories of those gone wrong

Even if it does work, this bit of information from their website drew my attention:
The carbon cartridge will last about 8 weeks in a 65 gallon tank with medium carbonate hardness

The replacement cartidges are $35 on Big Al's! The overall expense would eventually eclipse that of a pressurized CO2 cylinder system. I don't know if that alone would make the convenience of the system worth it, since that's a matter of opinion for everyone. My 5lb CO2 tank lasts a good 8-9 months and only costs me $12 to refill at the local home brew store.

Somewhere I found the carbon cartridges for under $20... I stuck it in my favorites but well.. that's about 200 links and around 50 of that in fish. I've heard people saying they last anywhere from 6wks to 6months depending on your water and how much co2 you want. Less than those filter cartridges for my penguin 330 that my lfs sells. Need to make my own filter pad to refill.
