In the near future I plan to update the current lighting on my 55g to a compact fluorescent strip light from Big Al's. I plan to get the All-Glass brand 48" 110watt light. It doesn't say on the website what length the bulbs are. I would like to put 96 watt bulbs in it but I don't know if that is possible. Here is the link to the one I want:
http://www.bigalsonline.com/catalog/product.xml?product_id=24085;category_id=1875;pcid1=1843;pcid2=[a href="http://null]http://www.bigalsonline.com/catalog/product.xml?product_id=24085;category_id=1875;pcid1=1843;pcid2=[href" target="_blank"]http://null[/a][/a]

It looks like they may be 24" each..I don't know for sure. If anyone has this fixture or knows about it, how long are the bulbs and could I get 96 watt bulbs for it? If not then could you recommend another strip light or bulbs?

It 2 X 55 watt bulbs.

You won't be able to fit a 96 watt in that fixture , the 96 watts are too long.

Don't need it anyway. 110 watts is a nice amount of light, 192 watts would be too much.

I have a coralife 130W on my 40g. Long. I kind of wish I would have went with something just a little smaller. I have 3.25wpg. If you did the 96W bulbs then you would have 3.49wpg. That is a lot of light. Probably not a good idea unless you are growing some really high light plants and running Co2 and all that jazz.

Ok so 2 wpg is good. And I could still grow like cabomba, wisteria, amazon swords..moderate light plants? I don't want really high light plants..just moderate..but I want to make sure I have enough light for them.

I am getting away with an Amazon Sword in a 55 Gal with only 30 watts of light it total. I run with quite a bit of Flurish Exell and some Flurish tabs. I am sure it would be doing even better if I had some good light on it. You should be fine with the Wistria and the rest I don't really know about.

The lights fine fror the plants you mentioned.

The WPG "guideline" is applicaple to normal flourescent tubes with no reflector.

Your light fixture is PC bulbs with reflectors, completely different kettle of fish. You can grow pretty much anything with 2 wpg of PC lighting.
