I'm thinking about adding some live plants to my brand new 45 gallon. Right now it has gravel and that's about it.

The pH is high (it's a cichlid tank) and I don't want to spend a lot of time on plants. In my freshwater community tanks I had java moss and some of that stuff (I totally forgot what it's called) that grows like crazy and is illegal in many states (because of introduction to lakes and ponds).

So, are there any plants that don't mind the high pH and will grow for me without much work?

Java fern will probably do well for you. Does fine in low light tanks, and will be a slow grower without CO2, and is considered rather indestructable although some people report it being munched on by some. As it is a rather slow grower even with CO2 I'd suggest getting the largest plant your LFS offers. One of mine sells small and large ones. It can then be easily rooted to wood or rock by tying it with some string or fishing line. Anubias will also likely work in the same manner as java fern.
Hornwort or duckweed are possibly the one you were thinking of, although I've yet to see hornwort on an invasive plants list in this area.
Thats what I can think of off the top of my head :%).

yup..have to agree with babel...thats what in my tank now..java fern and anubias nana..and they r just doing well.. btw..my tank pH=8-8.5 roughly.. so, i consider that high enuf..its like a cichlid water

aone omre thing...i think java moss will do well...all of these plants r hardy..and tolerate a wide range of lighting and co2 conditions......hope ull have plants in ur tank soon...gud luck
