How much light do you have? Some easy low-light plants include anubias, java fern, java moss, and crypts.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

Yes how many watts do you have. Swords have worked well for my low light in the past and then theres always hornwort and duckweed.

how many watts of light?

i'm basing on low light here...

java fern, java moss.

I've had success with amazon swords (why am I having so much difficulty in spelling sword today??) in lower light also. Crypts and other anubias do well also.

For a more difficult plant - a tiger lotus (red) does well in low light - i've tried it in high light conditions, and it doesn't fare as well...

The other thing to remember is that apart from the light you need to bear in mind the potential size of plant.

Quite a lot of plants will quickly outgrow a 7 gal tank.

For this reason I'd actually keep away from most swords they'll simply grow out of the tank. This would be true for most of the Lotus types also.

Most Crypts and some of the bigger Anubias would make fine background plants in a tank that size (Wendtii will get to about 12" tall).I'd keep away from most of the stem plants unless you like trimming, but some the smaller leaved types would work Rotala, Heminathus (although they need a fair bit of light).
Java Moss would work, as would Java Fern.In the long term Java Fern is another one that get too big, but it is very slow growing and if you get some the smaller varieties liked Wendelov or Narrow Leaf even better.

Dwarf Saggitaria, Tenellus and Anubias Nana would be good
foreground plants.

For a centerpiece a Dwarf Lily "Rubra" would do well for quite some time , although this too may eventually get too big.

Some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue.

Remember that age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability.

In low light I've had luck with crypts and anubias, moss balls are another good choice.

Anacharis and cabomba grow well for me. I have them in small tanks but have to do frequent trimming because of how fast and large they grow.
