The tank has medium lighting on the low end, substrate is a flourite and gravel mix. I have dwarf sag in there right now but in my experience it's not really a spreader, which is what I'm looking for. Options I've come up with on my own are dwarf chain sword, mondo grass, or hair grass. And thoughts on these or other recommendations? ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

I have it in low and high light tanks. One way to get it to spread faster is to cut each new plant away from the parent plant (just cut the runner). Then plant the "child" plants in the open areas. Doing this process once or twice will not only make the substrate looked more covered, but it will cause ALL of the plants to send out new runners which will of course cover the substrate better. Do remember however that making a "carpet" takes time, especially if you want a very thick one. It took my high light tank with ferts and co2 about 2 months to get a full, really thick carpet. I don't believe that microsword is a fast grower unless you have high light and co2 injection. I haven't tried dwarf hairgrass, but I believe it is good for medium light setups. ![]() |
