Hey, I had the same problem when I first set up my 90g.
The problem seems to be a lack of food/nutrition in the gravel. It takes some time for the gravel to build up a layer of food for the plants, to become "rich".
Try some plant fertilizer spikes. Nutrafin makes some that run around 5-8 dollars a pack of 6, but they last a year. Put one spike under each large root feeding plant.
As far as I know, Vals, Crypts, and Amazon Swords are all root feeders, so a liquid fert wont work too well.
You could also buy Fluval Peat Granules, and embed some under the plants that are failing.
Also, the lights should on the plants for at least 14 hours a day.

The plants may have run out of nutrients, especially if it's plain gravel. As Sneaky said you can try some root tab ferts, the swords, crypts and vals are heavy root feeders so don't bother with a liquid fert, it would be wasted.

If the light is the only thing you changed it may have had an effect but I doubt it. Go for a 12 on / 12 off cycle.

BTW, in what way are the plants "dying" if you describe the syptoms it may be a shortage of a particular nutrient.

Some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue.

Remember that age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability.

yep your defecient and probably light deprived also. alot of plants can look great under low light for a awhile but then they will deteriate over time or consume itself. but if your new shoots are showing yellow it sounds like a iron defeciency
