ive already decided for my new 20g im gonna try out sand for the first time...
what i want is to have a very NATURAL looking tank with sand bottom, nice rocks and driftwood, and about 4 or 5 leafy plants...

but ive heard sand compacts very tight causing stress on plants' roots and eventually killing them........so does anyone know of ...or have a sand bottom with nice looking plants that dont require high lighting

Depends on how deep your sand is. If it's only about an inch or so, enough to properly cover the appropriate part of the plant it would not be a problem. Some plants can do well in sand, look for ones that say they grow well in fine gravel.

I want an anibias in sand, would i be best to attach it to slate and then partially bury the slate?

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett
