Here is what I did: made a depression in the place I was going to move it to, then scooped up the plant, including most of the gravel its roots were in and placed the whole thing in the depression. My crypt was several plants together so some tried to get away and their roots weren't covered completely. After I had moved the bunch to the spot I wanted, I took some more gravel from next to it and placed it around the roots up to just before the stem started. HTH ><> |

Since supposedly crypts release a chemical that causes them to self destruct when they are disturbed (melting), they use up all of this chemical while they are in the chlorinated water. Thus, when you put it back in the tank, all of this chemical will be used up and washed away in the tap water. Something like that. ![]() |

I used the "20 minute soak method" when I added my crypts and moved them. No melting whatsoever. Might want to consider it just in case, be a shame to move it and have it melt on you. |

If you are moving between tanks, you might be concerned about water quality, composition, and temperature, but in tha same tank I would just be careful not to physically damage it and not put it through a tapwater soak on top of that. If it does melt, then you may want to soak the roots in tap water. You at least have a chance of growing it back. (if you are especially concerned about it) ><> |

Moving a plant within one tank means the same temperature, almost identical lighting, almost identical water movement, same nutrient balance ... that's not gonna cause melt. Whoever said to dig a hole and then move the crypt complete with surrounding gravel had it right, IMO. -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com! |

I know I have a green crypt wendtii and whenever I move it, I have absolutely no problems. However, with my red wendtiis, they melt for about a month after I move them, even if I don't touch them. (They melt, grow back somewhat, and melt again). I'm just saying it's better to be safe than sorry. |
