Medium lighting, Flourite substrate, Excel 2-3 times/week. The tank is planted with a variety of crypts, I'm looking for something taller to fill in the background. Unfortunately I haven't had luck with vals so I need other ideas.

My 30g has medium lighting as well, mixed substrate of Flourite & gravel. I have 10 anubias nana growing well...I'd like to try a taller type, perhaps either congensis or lanceolata. Anyone have experience with these and would one or both work in my tank?

Thanks.

crypt retrospiralis? Make it a crypt tank .

Ciliata could also work, but could get too tall. or Blasii if you want some color.

Blyxa Aubertii.
Taller crypts like Spiralis, Retrospiralis or Balansae.
Smaller narrow leafed swords like Uruquaysensis or Narrow Leaf Rubin.

The bigger Anubias will be fine, they are mostly variants on Barteri and all are equally easy to grow.

How about watersprite(Ceratopris)? Bacopa monnieri is also nice or even Cabomba caroliniana? These will all get tall.

Agreeing with Megil and Bensaf here.

Tall crypts like Balansae are really nice and don't go all crazy like vals.. Also have more texture then vals, ripples in the leaves etc.. The low maintenance plant aspect of it is good too, not having to always trim etc.
