I bought what I was told is pennywort and the guy said he had tons of it growing on his driftwood. It was starting to spread and take over the substrate and rest of the tank so he pulled a bunch of it out to sell. I stuck it in a crack in my driftwood but it has such an extensive root system. Is this suppose to be grown on driftwood? It's growing off the edge and out into the water and has some roots that are 8-10" long reaching for the substrate instead of attaching to the wood. It has extremely thick stems, thick leaves that crunch and break if I bend them, and the leaves are oval shaped with a point. It doesn't really look like pics I've seen of pennywort

That's an anubia bateri var. nana maybe even "petit" It's hard to tell proportions from the photo

But hold on, is the plant in the picture the one you are refering to in the original post?

Because if it is, it shouldn't have a "large" root system, and as far as i know pennywort will not attach on to driftwood.

Now, Anubias do attach to almost anything, it takes them time IME but they will finally do, and start growing.

Haha!!! He told you that was Pennywort? How much did you pay for that? It is a very nice specimen you have there. Anubias will do great in almost any tank as long as there is not an excess of algae. It could take quite a while for it to become fully attached. Just make sure to keep it on there and do not move it or else it will never attatch. By the way, pennywort is a type of Bacopa that is a stem plant that grows upwards.

$2 for that plant and a few smaller plants that are similar but have sword shaped leaves and a darker green. Yes it does have quite a bit of root. I couldn't get a good pic but it has very long roots going down through that spot where the driftwood splits and I had them laying out of pic across the counter. You can see the start of the tangle of roots in a few pics and then the part that sticks off the driftwood has roots coming down into the water. According to my tape measure that's a 12" piece of driftwood, about a 6" long plant, and the leaves are around 2". I knew that really didn't look like the pics of pennywort

Well you've got a quite good price for anubias then, they can be quite expensive

And the other youmention might also be anubias but a different var.

Let's say from looking at tropica's list of anubias plants that it's Anubias barteri var. angustifolia. Will that grow in the cracks on my granite cave? I have a 4inch one that not knowing what else to do with it I shoved it in a large gap. I would like it to cover the spots where I siliconed 2 pieces of blue granite together. Otherwise I was going to see what I can do with some java fern I just shoved in the corner for now.
