Is my ph ok for plants. Its at 8.3 and the water is hard. The plants Im considering are swords, vals, anubias, crypts, and the java fern/moss.

I've been told plants need more light at higher ph. Don't know if it's true but I do have most of those plants growing in a tank of 8.0 ph. I know anubias and crypt wendtii grow alright. Then I also have some italian val and amazon sword babies in the high ph tank. I'd just experiment a little and see what does well.

Well, I've not really researched this, but I feel that my plants are doing much better since I started using RO water in my tanks a few months ago. There might be other factors affecting the plants' growth but I still feel that softer water had something to do with it...

i don't see why not, people have plants with african cichlids
only that crypts might be more fragile.
