I am going to be heavily planting a 7 gallon mini bow and was wondering on my choice of filter, I have a topfin whisper 10, it was cheap and seemed to be a lower flow rate so it doesn't toss the plants around or suck up my soon to be Endler fry. Anyone care to tell me if this filter is to cheap? It was only like 13 bucks so i figured i coulld give it a try. Although i did buy the extra cartridge/sponge as opposed to useing those bio bags. Also I considering ordering a package of plants from online do you guys think this would be overdoing it or a good deal? http://azgardens.com/habitats_easy.php I will be getting 2 watts per gallon so all of these plants should do fine. Thanks in advance and any suggestions are welcome.

It's a fairly good filter, I have one on my 10. What I do like about it is that it has a lower outflow lip than the AC filters....which means less surface agitation.

Cover the intake to prevent fry loss, it has some rather big slits in the intake. Also I'd suggst not running the carbon in the filter floss, especially since you've got a planted tank. I just slide mine off the plastic frame and squeeze it just like you would a sponge. Mines been running fine for two years.

The intakes seems small to me...Compared to aquaclears atleast. I don't know maybe i'm crazy lol. What filter has the smallest intake other than of course a sponge filter?

I have been running that particular filter on my 10 since I got it. never had a problem with any fry going up the tube, the slits are very small. It is a good filter. to avoid surface agitation simply fill the tank to the bottom of the return spout and the water will just glide across the top. I have the tank fairly well planted and it is running fine. good luck. Oh, and I usually just disard the carbon, cut one of the floss bags in half and insert one half into the bag to provide more floss, works very well

Yea i thought the slits were rather small which is why i figured this filter would be nice for my planted endler tank. I'm not sure how small endler fry is but since there max size is usually an inch i can't imagine they are to big when born.
