do these plants grow by runners, or is this a new "branch" from below the surface? here is the whole plant, you can kind of make out the new one at the base there:

and here is a closeup of the new growth:

Hey look @that, looks almost like my red temple . Mine hasn't done that yet, but I do know that the leaves will grow roots, so I wouldn't actually be surprised if it was able to. So far this guy has been the only one that's shown any growth in my tank, and it's compeating against hygro, wisteria, and hornwort :%) .

That's the way Hygrophila reproduces, the new growth is still a part of the main plant.

You might later want to top cut the original stem and replant that somewhere, then the new ones will get more light, and the plant will get bushier.. Nice plant by the way, wish I had enough light for one

Alternathera reinekii, Red temple is one of the few (if not only ) red plant that can grow in medium light. Mine has been in 2-2.5wpg and has been growing, I'm sure it would grow faster with more, but like I said earlier it's outgrowing wisteria and hornwort .

Whoops, I thought that plant was really similar to Hygrophila Siamensis 53B except alot more red.. Even if its different the reproduction methods the same.. Mine is a low light tank, not yet upgraded to a 2wpg..

Cryptocorne hormandii, which is partially red will grow in lowish light. I have one in a 10 gallon with 15 watts of light, and it is growing nicely.

Damn Babel, your Red Temple is outgrowing your Hornwort? I had two foot of hornwort two months ago, and i trimmed it yesterday (or well just chucked out 90% of it ) and it was up to ten foot long in total! It is crazy stuff.

Nice plant Space Poodle. :88)

Yes, fish1, that can be done. I'd wait until the 'baby' becomes a little larger and stronger.

I have to really trim some Hygro Poly the bottom growth is thin but the tops are really nice and have some reddish to them.. Some of them are growing sideways etc, gotta scape this a little more but need a couple hour session.
