so my tank is 30x18x12, 29g. i just bought new lights, so now i have
3 strips of 24 inches, bringing me to 60 watts(2wpg)
and before i had
one 24 inch, and two 18 inch, makes 50 watts

now i have more lights, but i have no where to put them, the top of my tank is just covered with light fixtures, i cannot find room to put them. i have 3 strips of 18 inches, and they are just sitting in the cabinet. and i hear people with 5+ wpg tanks, where do you find room to put that many lights?? on the back of the tank? on the sides? or did you guys use the bulbs? because they are like 100 watts each

Depends on the hood your tank has, when i updated my light set i had a new hood done in order to fit the extra lights, another option is that you get electronic balast (spelling) instead of the real big black ones, those take less space and work really good and are easy to install, it only take a couple of screws.

Compact bulbs are a new option, because you can fit more in less space, so you end up having more light but the tubes are a good option too.
