im interested in some slow growing plants. the main purpose of the plant is to actually stay small not just grow slowly. the thing is plants really dont do what i want them to in my tank. my elodea dies (go figure?) my val and bannana plant both grow to 35-40 inches (no joke i measured, not cool in a 19 inch tall tank). the java moss doubles its mass every 6-8 weeks. so any ideas for something that will stay 5-15 inches for a while?

Anubias grow painfully slow. Barteri Nana will stay small. Some varities are a little bigger but none will exactly take over a tank !

Crypts will also grow pretty slowly and don't get more then 6" high for most varieties.

Java Fern Wendelov stays a lot smaller then normal Fern and is also very slow growing.

Don't forget Algae (aka Moss/Marimo) balls! BTW, how much light do you have? You may want some fast growers (water sprite, Hygrophila, etc) to keep algae from inhabiting the slow growers. Anubias, Crypts, Java fern, and Marimo balls will all do fine in low light, so it's ok if you have water sprite shading them
