I just bought a bunch of water hyacinth for my pond. I don't have any potassium pergamate or alum on hand, but the pond shop (which I generally trust) said that malachite green would do a reasonably good job.

Opinions? FYI, the malachite green solution I keep on hand (for ich) also has formalin in it. How would that affect plants?

Thanks!

Would it kill most of the bad stuff that can come in on new plants?

it will kill some or maybe most of it....but i believe that as long as u treated it well to a separate container for sometime...the plants will be ok to be added eventually...not even snails will survive with that.
