I really don't think there are, unless the heat from the lights boiled away the water.

However, if you had a whole lot of light but no CO2 or ferts, the plants would have a lot of trouble using the additional light, and you'd be more or less guaranteed a horrific algae outbreak.

People do say that Java Fern gets "burned" in high light - I've never seen this happen, and I've kept it under 320 watts of VHO or 13 wpg on a small tank. C'mon - the natural light for this plant is the sun, we're never going to match that.

I've noticed that hornwort doesn't like all that much light or the higher temps...seems to turn brown and not grow as fast when it's too bright...but being hornwort does come back quite well if you drop the temp and lower the light a bit or even just give it a day off.
And I fully second that horrific algae outbreak...or worse cynobacteria !.

Babel - do you think it's possible the hornwort is getting more light than nutrients? It's such a nitrate and phosphate sucker I wouldn't be surprised to find that the cause of the browning is running out of nutrients to go with the light, rather than being bombarded by too much light.

Anyone ever have problems with Java Moss and light ? I have aterrible time with the stuff. I asked a local grower and he suggested too much light. I dismissed this as I only have 2.5 wpg. But sure enough any moss in direct light died off, the shaded moss still going strong. Classic example I had one rock covered in moss, half the rock was under direct light, the other half completely shaded by a Java Fern and yup the exposed half of the rock is now completely bare, the shaded half still going strong

I've been doing well with Java moss in high light, except when it gets choked out by bladderwort. :hrug:: Different tanks, always tough to compare.

you might be right on that one....considering the tank I was thinking about was the one I ended up having a pretty bad BGA problem with....however I've never had good luck with hornwort (go figure ) even in tanks I knew were high in nitrAtes (the liberated 30 for example @80ppm) it didnt' do well *shrug*...what can I say, plants don't seem to like me much .
