First off, you want 60 to 90 watts of flourescent light in the 6500-6700 K rating.. I struggled with 1wpg and pulled it off, but some plants could have done alot better. Here's a few I had in mine that I can remember in 1wpg. crypts, asian ambulia, water Lettuce, hygrophila polysperma, hornwort, pennywort, anubias, java ferns, vals, elodia densa. Had more, can't remember. I also recommend either purchasing a plant substrate or making a nutritious substrate. Flourite and eco-complete are the main ones. For them leave pure. Or you could mix peat, sand, topsoil (low in organics) and some clay. (couple inches) then cap with an inch of fine grain pea gravel. Good luck, DaFish The Amazon Nut... |

LITTLE_FISH![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ***** Little Fish ***** Master of Something Posts: 7303 Kudos: 1997 Votes: 670 Registered: 20-May-2005 ![]() ![]() | bratyboy2, I hear you on the latest transformation issue, and believe me, I got to hear it from my aquascaping buddies ![]() To your questions: 1) No, the plants wouldn’t do as good. You need 3 things for efficient plant growth, besides water, namely Fertilizer, Light, and CO2. 1wpg is low light and some CO2 for sure will increase growth, but these plants would not thrive in it. Also, for 1wpg CO2 is best provided in a small shot of liquid carbon, most of us use Flourish Excel for this purpose. 2) 2wpg is ok, but borderline. My 2.25wpg (ba 3) Depends on the light ![]() 4) Wow, way too many fish, or did I misread your thread and you really have at least a 55? I am not familiar with some of the fish you list (at least not in detail), but I am not a fan of any schooling fish (tetras and even cories) being in groups of less than 6. 5) Place what? We first have to figure out what to get. Also, look for some hardware, aka maybe rocks and/or driftwood. Also, I forgot, did you mention what substrate you want to use? Hope this helps a little, Ingo ![]() |

The ambulia was 'leggy' but most of those plants did well. The val died off. I was giving ambulia, water lettuce and pennywort away to friends with tanks often.. The last 2 I mentioned are floating plants. Although I did it, I DO NOT recommend 1wpg. I did use co2, liquid fert here and there, and jobes plant spikes. Your 29 gal tank would be about 18 inches high and you want 2wpg at least to get that light down to the substrate, as well as give you a higher variety plants. 60 watts for you would be a good starting point, approx 2wpg. My 40g breeder tank is only 1.5 wpg and carrying 30 something species of plants. I think with 2-3 wpg you'll be very happy. The Amazon Nut... |

Also, 2 full grown angelfish (they will grow you know) will make a 29g look so small. I would get only one, if any in that size tank. |
