I am distressed. Last week, I bought 3-5 Java fern, about 4 dwarf Sagittaria, and and an Amazon sword. I bought these at an auction and unfortunately they are not all fron the same seller. I went to several LFS trying to find Jungle Clear Water so that I could disisnfect the plants and kill any snail eggs. No one had heard of it and of course the guy insisted that he always puts fish in his tank without any incident.

Well I don't know if this has to do with the plants or the water quality but I have some grayish/whitish hair algae growth on the tips of my java ferns and it seems to be spreading to the other ferns. I have some growing on my heater as well.

There seem to be particles floating around my tank and the plants that don't have the hair like growth seem to be growing a dusty covering.

I am doing my best to describe it but I am freaking out. What is this stuff and what should I do?

Please answer as ASAP!

Thanks---daviine

Some water parameters would help, and how much lighting you have, if you are dosing any ferts, or any other chemicals. These can give us some clues to find out what's wrong.
