The heaters are on a lot of the time, so its a sign that the MH isnt heating the water up too much. Its usually at 78-80 degrees. Since the heaters are on a lot now, I have a feeling that it still wont be a problem in the summer.

Question about this set up...

Do you have any fans or chiller system?

I noticed that you have MH lighting and glass canopies on your main display, I'm curious as to how you keep the temperature from going to high.

What's the normal range?

I setup a 50g tank with a 29g fuge. I have a aquaC remora skimmer, 250w DE metal halide 20k pendant. I also have a closed loop system them returs water into the main tank through a track of PVC and soft tubing. I am using a mag 12 as a return to my main tank. The mag pump hits a SCWD (makes random water currents), then it branches off in two spots and enters the tank with two individual U-tubes. I plan on getting zoanthids, softies and eventually some sps.

Here are some pics.

Iwaki pump: runs closed loop:

and here is a crappy pic of my fuge before I finished it completely: http://www.nano-reef.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=6585&password=&sort=1&cat=500&page=1

It's great you are taking your time and doing everything properly! Post some pics when you get your live rock set up the way you want it.

Oh, most shrimps are good for picking stuff out of crevices in the live rock. Just be aware that if you have too many, they may stay out in the open and irritate your corals by standing on or near them. I sorta made that mistake too.

I have read (I think on this website from DRO), and found in my own personal experience, that hermits are a little destructive to reef tanks. They cool and interesting little buggers, but have a bad tendency toward moving any small items in the tank to other locations. While this gives a more natural look, it has a tendency to be annoying when you are trying to get a new coral or tubeworm to stay in one spot long enough to adhere. You can get the same clean-up effect with brittle stars, cucumbers, assorted snails, and others as you can with hermits. Besides, red legged hermits (safe) look alot like spotted hermits (very bad ]:|). Just my input, but that is what this website is for, right?

I will do a fishless cycle, the first thing that I will add will probably be a clean up crew, either snails or hermits, maybe some peppermint shrimp, and a starfish. After that I will add my first fish

Are you gonna cycle with just LR or are you getting a fish to speed it up? I can't wait to see it when everything is in there!
