If it is from a previous freshwater tank, or if it came with a tank you bought, it is probably not enough light for a reef tank. I'd expect to pay 300USD more or less on lighting a 55 reef tank. You will also need a protein skimmer - a good one, which will cost you a couple hundred USD. Live rock in my area costs 7 - 10 USD, and for a reef tank in a 55G tank you will probably end up with about 70 lbs. or more of rock. This all brings you up to about 1000 USD without considering any livestock. Most reefers also have a sump with a refugium for nutrient export and more water volume. This means a tub or tank of some sort, an overflow, and a return pump, which in total will probably be a couple hundred dollars. When all is said and done, with salt, sand, and other equipment, I'd be looking at 1,500ish USD for a decent set up. But that's just a guesstimate.
