Hi guys long time no see!

I was wondering if someone can help me with a question.

I recently bought a peice of pvc pipe that has 2 beautiful zoanthid polyps on it. Now, you could imagine that the peice of pvc can be an eye sore. Well, I was wondering if it's possible to grab the zoanthids by their base and pull them off the pipe to glue them on a peice of rock. I dont want to cut the polyps since there are only 2 I dont want to take too much of a choice.

If I cannot do this without harming the polyps, then I will just leave them be and let them populate the peice of pvc, and once there are more of them, then I may try cutting them.

Thanks all!

Neil

I would suggest you just leave them, as to avoid damaging them when trying to move them. On the other hand, you could always cut the pipe up to just the little piece of the pipe where the zoos are. Then place it on/near a rock you want poppulated with them. If given the best environment, it should not take long to populate the other rock.

The problem here is that there are like 2 inches between the 2 polyps so cutting the pipe isn't really possible, I would want to place the polyps together. But in the end, I will probably keep the zoo's on the pvc.

Thanks for your input.

Do you have anything like a Dremel Roto-Tool. This has small cutting wheels that should be able to trim the PVC pipe in seconds.

yes, I do have a dremel, but the it's 1.5" pvc that his been in the tank that I bought it from for more then 8 years, so also has lots of coraline, and just because I dont like it too much doesn't mean the fish dont like it, so dont want to cut it apart either.

For now, like I said, I think I'll just leave it as it is and let the zoanthids grow and spread a bit, then I will frag. Shouldn't take too long for them to grow in a 10g nano with 165watts of pc lighting and feedings.

Thanks for the suggestion

I agree with leaving it alone for now, and for when you do try to propagate the Zoanthus you might want to check this article out.
