just came home and took a look at my tank, my newly bought mushroom coral had patches of brown slime on it, upon brushing the slime off, the coral underneath it brushed away withit like it was completely decayed. now half the mushroom is whiteish greyish "sickly looking" while the other half is till a strong brown healthly looking colour, ive removed all visible traces of the brown slime. my question is what was it and can the coral be saved or should i destroy it?
should i also cut off the sickly bits or will they recover?
please help immediatly!
thanks

sounds like brown jelly infection to me. If you have other corals in the tank it is best to either

A) remove the whole coral/rock the coral is attached to

B) cut off the affected area and do a Lugols Iodine dip.

Not much you can do other than those things.

What are your water parameters, temp, alk, ph, calcium, salinity, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate?
