If I get a 37 gallon, which is 22 inches tall, would a 65w light be good enough for my soft corals, or would I have to either get a new light or put my corals up higher?

BTW, my current corals are: Xenia, Yellow Polyps, Zoas, and Mushrooms.

...still trying to fully get this SW lighting down...

IMO, you are pushing the lower limits with flouro bulbs. I would suggest you double it, or look into HO T5s, or PCs. The mushrooms should be fine (depending on which they are). Common mushrooms don't require the lighting of the specialized ones. The other corals should be fine, but would be much better with more light.

oops, maybe i should have mentioned that it was a 65 PC bulb...

Also, I was thinking I may need a double 65 watt PC light anyway, so you kinda confirm my thoughts

2 65 watt PCs would be just fine.

The cheapest way is to get a retrofit kit. I know Aquatics & Exotics had a few last time I was there. You might give them a call and see if they still have any. Then just take it and mount it in an old light housing. Or if you have a canopy, mount it right to the canopy. Other than that, I don't know of any cheaper way. You might got to All About Pets on Rt42. He sells used lighting equipment. You never know what he might have available.

Hmmmmm.... I could build my own canopy AND stand and then build in a retrofitting...

I'm fine with woodwork and that kind of stuff, but with electrical stuff, I'd be kinda worried. I've never really looked at a retrofit setup so I don't know whats involved. Is it pretty simple or something I need to get a masters degree in

Also... you know where I work, is there any retro you would reccommend I order?

Retro fits are very simple, and usually come with everything needed including directions on how to hook up all the electrical stuff. As for which to order, that is up to you, as I don't know which companies are making them.
