refugium/sump size. | |
Sonic2041 Enthusiast Posts: 152 Kudos: 142 Votes: 19 Registered: 19-Dec-2004 | i have i 120 gallon tank and i am looking into buying the first part of my filtration. right now i am looking at getting the sump tank. i will be using it for a refugium. I am looking at an acrylic sump that is 30 x 13 x 16 would this big big enough to use on my tank. i will be using in-line pups, an external protein skimmer so the only thing that would have to go in there is the refugium media. it comes with the dividers already in place for the refugium but i dont know how far apart they are located. it looks like the middle section is 20 to 24 inches long. |

I use that as a general rule. I have a 72 gallon tank with a 30 gallon sump, so that's a little bit more. More is always better, it can't hurt. I suggest that you put those measurements into one of the converting calculators on the site, and go from there. Go the biggest you can, you will not regret it! -Ferret [hr width='40%'] If genies were real and wishes came true, I’d rub the bottle and be holding you, I’d close my eyes, wish upon a star, open my eyes, and there you are… -Formerly known as the Ferretfish |

Again, that is a rough estimate and doesnt have to be followed, but the bigger you go the better it will be. The main problem with using an undersized sump/refugium is the operating level being lower in order to prevent an overflow situation in case of power outage. I would shoot for a refugium of 50ish gallons as a minimum if it was my tank. [hr width='40%'] Hoping you are dreaming of me too...
