Reassurance of the close contact of conspecifics will unconsciously trigger a counteracting behaviour that allows the fish to overcome this cautionary behavior since again the predetermined genetic inherited behavior can be subdued by partial shoaling behaviour, the theory being that in group numbers more than one fish will have a higher probability of detecting an approaching predator. This is a time honoured course of behaviour that through the multigenerational development and survival of fish showing this behavior, thusly allowing their genetic line to continue, the behaviour is persistantly reinforced, and although technically a redundant behaviour in the aquarium its still adhered to by this species. It doesnt know any of this of course since it has a brain the size of a pinhead!" Which would be by any standard, a bit of a "hitch hikers guide to the galaxy" type entry. lol See what I mean? The semantics of fish consciousness are irrelevant. Referring to "feeling" is just shorthand, and in this instance, perfectly acceptable. (ps , part of my degree was animal behaviour Anthropormorphism of fish is something that scientists like to avoid, but in the eye of the average reader on this site, its usage is perfectly acceptable. Since most people have no idea about true animal behavior triggers whatsover, and indeed since so much of it in the field itself is not entirely understood and still only in the theoretical stages , we are not misinforming them so much as just giving them the quickest way possible to come to a comperable understanding of actual events that will take place . Can you prove you can "feel" anything any more than a fish can? |

You just word it better than me and I have a english degree, but can SPELL worth a Sh t. thats why we have spell check. I have done alot of research on several fish and would like to include my 20 plus years of aquarium experience with people but with the responce I got from the controlers I don't think it would be receaved will. "DON"T PANIC" lol I have the original BBC series on AVI file and enjoyed the book so much more. Djrichie "So Long, and Thanks For All The Fish" Douglas Adams |

The bbc HHGTTG was much better than the new one, even though I adore Bill Nighy in anything! The books are better still. I have all of em ps, I can spell, but i typo like no-one else, and my keyboard is full of tobacco .lol You got a yes vote from me anyway . I was just telling matty that the whole "fish dont have feelings" thing is a bit irrelevant under the circumstances. |

I do bow to you and the way that combine them there big words to get your point across. Very poetic almost fluid like. In my line of work if I use big words most of the employees look very confussed and really nothing gets done. so I guess I lost that ability. I never could spell don't understand that, they say I'm smart but maybe I just smarter than them And just so everyone else understand my addition was not approved but longhair gave me an example of how it should be stated. I just copyed and pasted. So give him all the credit. I don't know him but he seems to be a very interesting charactor. "Don't Panic" Djrichie "So Long, and Thanks For All The Fish" Douglas Adams |
