Ten neons and a betta would be fine, or you could do a school of cardinal or glowlight and a school of neons, in addition to the betta. In my opinion, two schools of small, peaceful tetras such as the above would be fine with a betta, since they take up so little space and produce so little waste. |

These latter fish are tiny (1" max, thus actually smaller than the Neons) and would live compatibly with the Neons if you can find them. Alternatively, you could try and push the boat out, and go for a rare Tetra species to go with the Neons such as Hyphessobrycon georgettae, which is another tiny species (30mm max). How you'd go about finding these rarities is a moot point (specialist Characin society would be your best bet if you can contact one) but if you can find them, they'd be a superb acquisition. ![]() |
