Ummm... Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't they outgrow the 55 gallon big time? I think piranhas can get to nearly a foot long, plus they are very dangerous fish. I would definitely NOT do it.

yes they will get 12in but that wont out grow the tank. they are only dangerous if you dont know what your doing. im getting tired of ordinary community setups and want something different. also i got a 75g if i think the tank is too small

if i were u id put the 3 reds in the 75g that uve got. but 3 in a 55g. is perfectly fine. u already know that they can reach 12in. but they usually max at 10in. in home aquariums. even very large home aquariums. even if they do start pushin the 1ft. mark that wont be for a very long time. theyll grow around an inch a month for the first six months of their life. after that if u keep them on a good diet and very frequent water changes then they can get about 1/2in. a year max. so sounds like quite a nice lil set up. welcome to the sickness ... seriously tho, resistance is futile.

IMO you can put 3 fully grown reds in a 55gal, they will be more agressive but lots of people have pulled it off. Of course, thats assuming your reds are of the nattereri or caribe variety. Pirayas get 24"+. Keep the water quality pristine and feed them regularly.
