are u asserting that piranha are more of a "wild" fish than what u would consider a tetra? piranha habit n behavior is all but identical to that of any other smaller tetra. their only true differences being physical. their max. size, denture, etc.

Yeah, I like red eyes. They are nice fish. I would'nt call them my favourite tetra though.

Nothing beats a big school of Cardinals in a tank!
I unfortunatly only have 8 in my 100 liter (27 G), but am thinking of another 100 liter with a school of 20 - 30 on their ace
Nobody has mentioned the red eye? Nice looking little guys? Yes, No ?

You wouldn`t walk into a shop and point at a Piranha and call it a tetra would you? whereas if you pointed at a little characin like a Neon you would automatically say they are Tetras.

1. Congo Tetras (popular I see )
2. Cochu Blue Tetras
3. Glowlights
4. Neons
5. Serpae

sirbooks, I have 14 cochu's, and it's interesting how they flock to a light source when lights go out in the tank, they also sleep at the top of the tank, I've also read they are rare to see as they don't ship well, if you get the chance I'ld recommend them in a heartbeat, tho they don't school, but play tag at high speeds through the tank .

Alright that was a kinda dumb example.

I'm just trying to say that I myself would'nt call a piranha a tetra.
Because when you talk about a tetra your always refering to the little 5cm ones and not piranhas. Thats just what i think

It really does'nt matter if you consider a piranha to be a tetra or not, I was just saying what my opinion is.

Although they are from the same family i would'nt myself call a piranha a tetra.
It's kinda like calling a wolf a dog. They're from the same family but a wolf is not a dog, a wolf is a wolf. If you get what i mean.

They all belong to the same family, so actually, yes, pirahnas can be considered "tetras", though the word is merely a common name.

Silver Tip Tetras as they the only ones I have ever owned and they seem quite nice and look amazing in a school of about 60. I only have 5 but the 60 altogether in the store looked amazing.

Keep looking, Sham -- the adult males are worth it. But when you get them, be sure you use Blackwater Tonic -- it seems to do wonders for their disease resistance.

My 8 congo tetras Beautiful under good lighting. I also love my school of black neons. Even in very low lighting they still look good. I searched everywhere for blue emperor tetras but never did find any so while I liked the pictures of them I can't really say.

I like glowlights and a few other tetras, but I have to say the most impressive sight I've seen in a long time was a tank at my fav LFS stocked with these absolutely gorgeous long-finned serpae tetras. After seeing that I want to dedicate a tank to a large school of them in the future. Simply gorgeous fish.

I like Bleeding Hearts myself.

Its strange that no one has mentioned Serpaes. They used to be very popular, have they just fallen out of style?
