Ok, first of all i do appreciate any/all HELP i can get on here. I privately apologized to sirbooks for making them feel bad. I took offense at a couple of comments that were made by diff ppl and I now know that they meant no offense. SO, I am starting a fresh thread here...

I need to find out what i can/should keep and what I can put in w/them (if anything). I am also getting another 29 gal tank this weekend plus a 10gal nursery tank. I want to get away from platies, guppies and tetras for my other tank. What suggestions are there for it? Okay, here's what I have at this exact moment.

5 Neon Tetras
5 Black Neon Tetras
1 Glo Lite tetra
1 blue snail (new)
1 red wag platy (stunted)

Thanks!
Robin

I haven't been following the other threads you allude to, so I'm curious about what size tank you have and what your water parameters are. Once we know that, we can probly help you out for sure...

Since you made the statement "another 29 gallon" I'm going to assume you currently have that stock list in a 29 gallon. If you do, then hopefully this will help. If you don't, then this'll be basically useless, but it's worth a shot...

What I would do if I was in your situation is that I would up my neon and black neon schools. Add 1 to each of those, giving you two schools of six, and your tank would be pretty much stocekd at that point. You have to remember that a 29 gallon's surface area isn't very great b/c it is a tall tank rather than a flat, wide tank. This causes your stocking list to have to be a little smaller than if it was a flat, wide tank with greater surface area...

Lastly, does your glo-light tetra seem to school with either the neons or the black neons? If he does seem to be fitting in decently, then I'd say you can keep him and it should be fine for him. If he seems to be a loner, not swimming much, hiding a lot, or acting strangely, then I would say that it's probly because he's lonely. If you had more room, I'd suggest getting some buddies for him, but unfortunately your tank is already stocked, so you have to decide whether he fits in best in your community or if he'd be better off with a bunch of his buddies. It's your decision either way, and I promise, we won't get mad at you no matter what you choose...

Good luck and I hope that helps. I'll check back tomorrow to see if I guessed right or if all that was for naught...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

LOL, you are right Billy! Sry about that info being left out. I thought I had included that and I didn't. Anyway, my neons and blacks seem to be happy w/their groups of 5 so could I get away w/adding 2 more glo lites? Thanks for your help! I tend to read way to much in to stuff (just ask my hubby, ) LOL. but again, thanks!

Then yeah, I'd recommend adding the glo-lites to make sure they feel as comfortable as possible. After that though, the tank will be fully stocked if not a tiny bit overstocked. Make sure you keep up on your water changes and keep the carbon fresh in your filter to help keep the tank stable and avoid any crashes...

Oh, yes, definitely add a few more Glowlights! In fact, they seem to me to be unusually timid little tetras -- they tend to hide behind plants a lot unless you have at least a small school of them. (They also seem to be a lot fonder of algae wafers than most other tetras.)

I would say add 1 more each of the neons and black neons, add 5 more glowlights, and you could add some bottom feeder such as Cory catfish, a smaller pleco of some kind such as a bristlenose or candy stripe etc, or you could do some shrimp, or perhaps some type of loach such as polka dot loach, queen loach, or yoyo loach, in a small group, maybe 4 indiviuals.

What kind of shrimp could I put in my tank (and how many) w/out having to worry about my smaller tetras? My sister has some kind of shrimp that killed her newt and several other fish. It was a bigger shrimp so i assume ya'll are talking about a small one but I've never seen anything smaller than what my sister has (of course i've not looked either).

Thanks!
Robin

The shrimp they're talking about are ghost shrimp. Like I said before, you need to keep regular water changes and be careful about not overstocking because of the fact that a 29 gallon can be rather touchy with a possibility of crashing rather easily. If you're gonna add some of those, add the two neons first, wait about a week, make sure everything's going fine with the tank, add three glo-lights, wait about a week to make sure everything's fine, then add two more glo-lights and a couple ghost shrimp...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

Cool!
Thank you for all your help and suggestions. I check my water every 2 days and I do water changes 1x a week. I've never (Knock on wood) had any trouble w/my water so I guess I'm extremely lucky.

I will do as suggested and hopefully all will do well. I'll keep ya'll posted and eventually I'll post a pic of my tetra tank! I love my tetras!

Bye ya'll,
Robin
