My store just got in a shipment of some interesting tetras. They were labeled as "Diamond Neon Tetras", and did indeed look to be the same species as normal neons. However, their colors were very different. The fish had no blue on their bodies, but had sky blue eyes. Also, the only red was located towards the caudal area, and was almost diamond-shaped. The rest of the fish was silvery-gray.

I asked a manager-guy, and he said that they were the same species of fish as neon tetras, just a color variation. This appears to be true. I was just wondering if anyone has heard of or encountered this fish before.

Never heard of those Nick, but they sound really cool. Have you found anything off google that looks similar? They sound really pretty and I'm not even a neon tetra fan.

I really hope they aren't some weird mutated fish (like the last cool fish I liked...)

*google searches*

SIDE NOTE: my little sister just came over to read the screen, and said, "Lee, is there such thing as a ferretfish?" I just giggled and left her pondering.

They've started turning up in large numbers at Sacramento's admittedly well-stocked main fish store, and they are indeed just a new specially bred race of Neons. The fish farms have finally gotten so good at breeding even difficult fish like Neons and Harlequins that they've started offering new breeds of them, the way they used to do with guppies and platies. (In the case of Harlequins, we're seeing the "Black Rasbora".) Now, if only the fish farms were as good at keeping their fish disease-free...

Yep, the "diamond" neon tetras are fairly common around here as well, though my store doesn't stock them (by choice).

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

Yes, we have "Black" and "Gold" rasboras at our store. They look somewhat interesting, but I've noticed that they aren't very hardy. They don't seem to sell very well, though. Perhaps it is because they are so small?

Yep, I've heard of them, I did have 11 but they've slowly disappeared and I'm now down to 1 (I suspect my large clown loaches greedy mouths).

I was told that they're not as sensitive as the normal neons but I haven't found that at all.

My clowns at feedingn will come to the top of the tank and attack the net trying to get the frozen food inside and also will jump out of the water a bit at the flake food and mine have never hurt another fish and they have been in tanks with baby swordtails, dwarf gourami and various other small fish
