Does anyone know anything about these? I was at Petco yesterday and they had two left. I've never seen/heard of them before and the person working there didn't know anything about them either. They are sorta dull colored grey, killi-shaped body with a bright white spot under their eye (hense the name). I was going to grab the last two but at 3.99 a peice I figured I'd do some reasearch first. Of course I'll probably never see them there again but oh well.

One thing is for sure, there isn't a lot of information on this fish! At least, not on the Internet.

I do know a little bit about this tetra though, so I'll try to fill you in. They are like other tetras in that they are schooling fish, so buying just two wouldn't have been a good idea. They are happy to eat flake foods, but they love meaty fare. These tetras are of moderate hardiness, and are pretty easy to care for. That's about all I know, hopefully someone else can supply some other info.

sirbooks, their schooling nature is exactly why I didn't buy these last two. I hope they have them again soon! They were very neat looking Tetras.

nonamethefish, I think you are right. In doing some searches for that name on Google Images I got pics of fish that looked very similar.

Here's a good one: http://www.adaniels.com.ar/enciclopedia/Dulce/TROPICAL/aplocheilichthys_normani.jpg --although I could have sworn the coloration was underneath the eye and not on top.

This page has some info: http://nzka.killi.net/species/apl-nor.html. So they aren't tetras at all but killis? Now I wish I'd bought them.

Their label was clearly "Lampeye Tetra" with no mention of being a Killifish but my very first impression of them was the similar body shape to my A. Australe killis.
