I have a new (used)55 gallon community tank that I am wishing to add 6-8 fish to(A small school). I currently am considering Glo lights, harlequin raspboras, bleeding heart tetras, and lemon tetras. Emperor tetras are another option.

I want fish that are not aggressive. Thank you for the suggestions in advance. Any suggestions other than the ones I mentioned are welcome.

thank you.

I know the harlequins are not tetras, but I am also considering them.

Most tetras (and all rasboras that I know of) are utterly non-aggressive, including all those you've mentioned. A few exceptions to watch out for among the tetras are Serpaes, Buenos Aires Tetras, Cochu's Blues (more often just called Blue Tetras), Penguins, and -- according to some accounts -- Silvertips.

IMO RummyNose, Emperor, Cardinals & Glo Lights aren't fin nippers.

I agree with Bruce, but I will note that most tetras will occasionally nip at long finned fish. When I had a betta with my lemon tetras, the otherwise-peaceful lemons liked to take small bits out of the betta's fins.
I think that the most aggressive of the fish on your list will be the bleeding heart tetras, though they still aren't very nippy at all. You should be fine with any of them in a peaceful community tank.

I'll put in a word for diamond tetras - some of my personal faves. I had 5 in a tank with black skirts, harlequins, lemon tetras, and a few gouramis and it was a very peaceful community. (Although if you want *no* nippy fish I wouldn't suggest gouramis.)

I think diamond tetras are especially beautiful!

I'd like to second the diamond tetra suggestion.
They're my only favorite tetra (granted I havent kept all that many ). Unfortunatly I only have 4 as I cant seem to find them in the stores around here ! These came with a tank I liberated from a very bad keeper a few years ago.

I would suggest either rummies or rasboras. I have both in the same community tank and both very peaceful. The rasboras (10) mainly stay in the middle towards the top of the tank and the rummies (15) hang out on the bottom and from time to time school up and travel up to the top. Between the two I think that rummies school more and much closer.

Eeek if you're looking for non-nippy tetras I'd stay clear of these. Beautiful fish but I recently bought a small school and they completely shredded the fins of two of my favorite guppies over night. One of which was a double tail that died. Luckily I managed to find and save the other.

I kept black neons with angelfish and swordtails without problems. Also congo tetras and emperors with some longer finned fish. If you are looking for a tighter schooling fish though stay away from emperors. They will scatter across the tank and only a male and female would occasionally swim together for me. Emperors are one of those few tetras that aren't really schoolers. Congos on the otherhand are the exact opposite and are about the tightest schooling fish I've kept.

I'd recommend Rosy Tetras. Playful, colourful, yet peaceful, and only likely to get nippy if crowded in cramped quarters. Give them space to swim and show off to each other (as the males in particular will do) and they'll make a wonderful display.

If you're able to find them, and want to try something out of the ordinary, Kitty Tetras are much loved by German aquarists, and are colourful to boot.

Black Neon tetras are a must if and only if the background and substrate are dark enough for this species to truly show off their colors. A large school in such a large tank (for small tetras) would be good if you had other tetras to complement colors. There will be no nipping if black neons are included.

I just added six Rumy-Nose Tetras to my 55g community tank and they look fantastic and are active swimmer, but are always schooled. Very nice looking fish.
